Manny Pacquiao Tries to Balance Boxing, Politics

In a July 9 article in the Phillipine Daily Inquirer, boxer turned congressman, Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, downplayed the importance of being an elected official.

Pacquiao told the paper that his "dream is to become a good public servant and a good leader of Sarangani."

I think the truth is, he's bored to his wits, wishing he was in the ring instead of behind a desk pretending to know what's going on in local politics.

Pacquiao said he wants to join committees on sports and energy.

Video: Andy Murray's pre-Wimbledon street magic

When

most people think of street magic, they think of David Blaine. Don't let that stop you from watching this nifty viral clip of Andy Murray performing his own blend of tennis-related street trickery:

Dustin Johnson implodes, fumbles away U.S. Open

Follow Yahoo! Sports' Devil Ball Golf on Facebook and Twitter.

Few golfers have held a three-stroke lead going into the final day of the U.S. Open. Some, like Tiger Woods in 2000, put the lead in a hammerlock. Others, like Dustin Johnson on Sunday, find that holding the lead is like holding onto smoke.

In the space of three nightmarish holes, Johnson went from three strokes up on eventual winner Graeme McDowell to three strokes off the lead. He carded triple bogey/double bogey/bogey on holes 2-4, and it's only because he was so far out in front as of Saturday that his entire U.S. Open hadn't gone up in flames in 20 minutes.

Hossa finally has his Stanley Cup

altPHILADELPHIA -- Upon further review, Marian Hossa has finally won the Stanley Cup.

There was no way his first championship was going to come easy, especially after the heartbreak of the past two seasons that ended with Stanley Cup Final losses with thePittsburgh Penguins in 2008 and the Detroit Red Wings in 2009. So it was only fitting that the Chicago Blackhawks needed overtime and a video replay of Patrick Kane's winner in order to give Hossa the sweet relief he's wanted for nearly three years.

Following Chicago's series-clinching 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers, Hossa finally let down the guard he's had up for nearly three years and admitted he truly was afraid of leaving the ice a loser once again.

Dad booed at game over misunderstanding

altMy favorite part of Joe Posnanski's "Soul of Baseball" is when Buck O'Neil refuses to boo a man for not giving a freshly caught foul ball to a nearby child.

"Don't be so hard on him,"  the late baseball legend famously tells Joe. "He might have a kid of his own at home."

It was an incredibly astute observation and one that I've often used as a reminder that there's probably always more to the story that we can't see.

Of course, sometimes you can see the whole story and it turns out to be just as complicated. Such was the case at Citi Field on Sunday when a grown man named Mike Terry saw New York Mets star David Wright(notes) throwing a ball into the stands and instinctively leaned over the railing to catch the offering for his 3-year-old son, Mackey.

Robben puts his World Cup in doubt by being fancy

And the hits just keep coming.

As Brian put it so eloquently Friday, the World Cup is cursed. No two ways about it. The latest star to (possibly) fall victim to the curse: none other than Mr. Glass Legs himself, Dutch star Arjen Robben. The Netherlands dominated their friendly against Hungary on Saturday, sparked by a Robben brace for a 6-1 thrashing of their opponents just hours before they would board the plane for South Africa.

Woody Harrelson, penalty kick winner

alt

No, there isn't a gas leak in your house causing you to hallucinate. That really is actor Woody Harrelson hoisting a trophy while surrounded by the likes of Henrik Larsson, Mike Myers, and Zinedine Zidane (bald head behind Wayne Campbell) after scoring a match-winning penalty in front of more than 65,000 at Old Trafford in Manchester. Unless writing this post is all part of a fever dream of my own, that actually did happen.
